Grizzly any good?
That said I have both a Grizzly 12 x 36 gear head lathe and thier mill drill. I have no complaints about either unit. They do the job that they were intended for. They arn't big heavy iron but are fine for my home shop/ ranch repair. I would rather have American made iron but can't justify the price. Ross.

Smithy Mills and Lathes
I bought the machine, and my impression initially was that it was worlds better than Smithy's "cheap" machines, like the 1220 series. The casting finish is pretty poor, but the fit of the parts that matter is OK. The mill head was reasonably square to the table, and the lathe spindle had very little runout, maybe 3-5 tenths.

Why should I NOT buy a 3-in-1 machine? | The Hobby-Machinist
So these 3-in-1 combo machines seem to meet my criteria. The reviews I've read, do usually acknowledge that while they "are a compromise of both a lathe and a mill," that they "are surprisingly rigid and capable", So I think the 3-in-1 satisfies #2 and #3. The smithy in particular satisfies #4 very well. I'm taking #5 for granted.
