A rotary impact crusher for rock or the like has an impeller with a plurality of impeller blades, and a plurality of breaker plates. A pivotal cylindrically concave baffle extends along a segment of the blade orbit. The blades are inclined into the direction of impeller rotation at angles of 25* to 45* and have outside edges lying along the orbit.
